People of The Information Factory #10 – Lubomir Zubek

Introducing Lubomir Zubek. Sales expert, teacher, science fiction enthusiast and optimistic traveller!

“I used to teach high school Maths and English but switched to sales due to a high demand in Slovakia for salespeople. My sales career began with a leading home appliance brand, where I quickly advanced to regional representative. One of my most memorable sales was a unique Swarovski-encrusted refrigerator. I was proud to conclude such an unusual sale and it was this early experience which made me realise I’m a people person.

For me, sales is about prioritising people’s interests. Unlike the typical shark display in Hollywood movies, my approach is focused on listening to customer needs and finding appropriate, long-term solutions. My primary goal is to provide helpful solutions and build lasting relationships. This mindset translates into the way I pace my work, where a typical month involves prospecting for new clients, primarily through introductory phone calls, followed up by emails and in-person visits. A key part of my process is analysing client needs and developing tailored solutions. The most rewarding aspect of my work is knowing that I've provided effective solutions that improve my clients' lives.

I was working in the logistics transportation sector when Viktoria Feketeova of The Information Factory (TIF) contacted me with an interesting opportunity. From the start, I appreciated the team's collaborative environment which has enabled me to realise many successful projects, and I hope to have benefited my clients’ work.

Outside of TIF I pursue a personal side project: teaching software development. This allows me to continue my passion for education by helping others acquire new skills. I'm also an avid science fiction fan, a love I discovered as a teenager through the works of Isaac Asimov. Since then, I’ve read the entire Dune saga multiple times and enjoy watching shows like Stargate SG1. This genre allows me to explore new worlds from the comfort of my home.

Despite frequently travelling for work, I still enjoy discovering new places with my family. This past summer, we visited Croatia where we enjoyed the beaches and sights of Dubrovnik. However, I broke a 20-year personal vow to avoid driving to Croatia due to the heavy traffic. My misplaced optimism led to hours of frustrating highway delays with my family. Lesson learned: next time, we're flying or taking the train to maximise our beach time!”
