People of The Information Factory #9

CFO Lindy Jordan, croquet club enthusiast and gardening maestro.

“My background blends engineering and accounting. While I began my career in engineering, drawn to its technical and practical nature, I ultimately transitioned to accounting. I find similarities between the two fields such as problem solving and mathematical puzzles. Prior to joining The Information Factory (TIF), I primarily worked with small businesses and charities in the UK.

My involvement with TIF began on a small scale, but the company grew rapidly, and I’ve become more and more involved. Being CFO means juggling multiple responsibilities, from processing payments and performing reconciliations, to management tasks such as budgeting, forecasting and preparing for new compliance requirements.

Accounting is often misunderstood. I once heard it described as ‘a big wagon wheel with spokes representing parts of the business and finance in the middle where everything comes together.’ You need to understand both the financial data and the business itself, the people and their objectives. Understanding how these pieces fit together is the daily puzzle I try to solve.

Our business changes constantly and there's always something new to tackle. I work closely with my finance team and liaise with all departments to understand new projects and requirements. This collaborative aspect, working alongside a great team of dynamic individuals, is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job.

Outside of work I'm the treasurer of my local croquet club. One of my proudest achievements was successfully negotiating a lease renewal with the local council after two years of work. The club now thrives with new members whom I have the pleasure of coaching. The club is going from strength to strength and our team qualified for the recent European Championship in the UK and the upcoming one in Spain.

When not working or at the croquet club, I enjoy visiting art galleries. I recently went to a fascinating Grayson Perry exhibition in Ealing, West London. I also enjoy gardening and engage in a friendly annual competition with my family to grow the best vegetables and fruits. This year I think I might win!”
